The Headquarters of the Ducato di Piazza Pontida and Its Historical and Cultural Heritage

Piazza Pontida is one of the most iconic places in the city of Bergamo. In the past, it was known as the “Wood Market” because it was the main hub for timber arriving from the Val Brembana, destined for local trade and craftsmanship. This historic role as a commercial crossroads has left a lasting mark on the city’s collective memory.
Today, the square retains all its charm: the historic porticoes, picturesque façades, and the presence of shops, cafés, and restaurants make it one of the liveliest and most frequented spots in the city center. Beneath these porticoes lies the headquarters of the Ducato di Piazza Pontida, a symbolic location that has always emphasized the deep connection between the association and the heart of the city.
Over the years, the Ducato has helped revive the square through cultural and folkloric initiatives and social gatherings, turning it into more than just an urban passageway, but a true meeting place and a shared point of identity for the people of Bergamo.
