A masterpiece of Italian opera
Composed by Giuseppe Verdi with a libretto by Salvadore Cammarano, Il Trovatore premiered in 1853 and quickly became one of the most beloved operas in the international repertoire.
The story revolves around Leonora, Manrico, Count di Luna and Azucena, whose lives become intertwined through love, jealousy, revenge and sacrifice, leading to a dramatic and unforgettable conclusion.
Renowned for its powerful musical writing, Il Trovatore includes some of the most famous pages of Verdi's output and remains one of the most frequently performed operas worldwide.
A new production by the Ducato di Piazza Pontida
This production aims to celebrate the Italian operatic tradition through a contemporary visual language, capable of connecting with modern audiences while preserving the emotional strength of the original masterpiece.
The production is directed by Mario Binetti, with musical direction by Maestro Antonio Brena.
Choir, orchestra, sets and costumes are produced by the Ducato di Piazza Pontida, involving both established professionals and emerging young artists, reflecting the project's commitment to supporting future generations of performers.
