Composed by Gaetano Donizetti with a libretto by Felice Romani, L'Elisir d'Amore premiered in 1832 and quickly became one of the most beloved comic operas ever written.
The story follows the shy young farmer Nemorino, who longs to win the heart of Adina. Believing in the magical powers of a mysterious love potion sold by the travelling quack Dulcamara, he embarks on a series of humorous adventures filled with misunderstandings and heartfelt emotion.
The opera is especially renowned for the tenor aria "Una furtiva lagrima", one of the most famous and moving pieces in the entire operatic repertoire.
A new production by the Ducato di Piazza Pontida
This new production celebrates Donizetti's masterpiece through a contemporary stage interpretation while remaining faithful to the spirit of the original work.
The production is directed by Mario Binetti, with musical direction by Maestro Antonio Brena.

The Ducato di Piazza Pontida concludes its programme of Bergamasque dialect theatre with Renzo e Lucia spusàs o spusàs mia, a lively musical comedy performed by the Il Teatro del Gioppino Theatre Company from Zanica.
This entertaining production offers a humorous reinterpretation of Alessandro Manzoni's masterpiece The Betrothed, combining local dialect, music and comedy in a performance that celebrates Bergamo's theatrical tradition.
