Esculapio I - V Duke of Piazza Pontida

Cino Rampoldi da March 1966 a December 1977

Known in everyday life as Cino Rampoldi, a professional surgeon, he assumed the title Esculapio I, in reference to the ancient god of medicine in classical mythology. On February 5, 1967, he promulgated the Constitution of the Duchy of Piazza Pontida, which established a six-year term for the regency.

Reconfirmed in 1973 for a second mandate, Rampoldi sought to transform the Duchy from a simple convivial and festive society into a true cultural institution. Under his leadership, the Duchy became a point of reference for the study and promotion of Bergamo’s folk traditions, history, art, and culture, despite the often limited financial resources.

His reign is remembered as a period of consolidation and growth, where the convivial spirit of the Duchy was joined by a broader and forward-looking vision, capable of bringing prestige to the name of Bergamo and to its cultural heritage.
