Giuseppe Bonandrini, Duke Pichetù, Bergamasque physician and poet.

Pichetù I - II Duke of Piazza Pontida

Giuseppe Bonandrini da June 1927

Giuseppe Bonandrini, known as Pichetù, was born in Casnigo in 1867 and worked as a municipal physician in Brembilla, Casnigo, and finally in Piazzatorre, from 1898 to 1936. A man of broad culture, he was passionate about music and a poet in the vernacular language.

A great hunting enthusiast, he chose as his ducal title the nickname of his bird-catcher from Casnigo: Pichetù. His reign is remembered as a true golden age for the Ducato di Piazza Pontida: under his leadership, the fellowship experienced an extraordinary flourishing of poets, writers, and artists, enriched by the most illustrious names of Bergamasque culture.

His poetic production is documented in a collection of thirty sonnets edited by G. Gambirasio. Among them, two stand out in particular, bearing witness to Bonandrini’s sensitivity and literary value.
